After Waking Up #1

Abū Dhar (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that whenever the Prophet ﷺ lay on his bed, he used to say: ‘O Allah, solely in Your Name I die and I live.’, and when he woke up he would say: [the above].’ (Bukhārī 6325)

After Waking Up #2

Abū Hurayrah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When one of you leaves his bed then returns to it, then let him brush it off with the edge of his garment three times, for indeed, he does not know what came upon it after him. When he lies down, let him say: ‘In Your Name my Lord, I lie down, and in Your Name, I rise. If You take my soul away then have mercy upon it, and if You return my soul then protect it with what you protect Your righteous servants with.’ And when he awakens, let him say [the above]. (Tirmidhī 3401)

ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās (radiy Allāhu ʿanhumā) narrated that he stayed overnight in the house of Maymūna (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhā) the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, his aunt. He added: “I lay on the bed (cushion transversely) while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife lay in the lengthwise direction of the cushion. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept till the middle of the night, either a little before or a little after it and then woke up, rubbing the traces of sleep off his face with his hands. He then, recited the last ten verses of Sūrah al-‘Imrān, got up and went to a hanging water-skin. He then performed wuḍū from it and it was a perfect wuḍū, and then stood up to offer the salāh. I, too, got up and did as the Prophet ﷺ had done. Then I went and stood by his side. He placed his right hand on my head and caught my right ear and twisted it. He prayed two rakʿah then two rakʿah and two rakʿah and then two rakʿah and then two rakʿah and then two rakʿah (separately six times), and finally one rakʿah (the witr). Then he lay down again in the bed till the Mu’adhdhin came to him whereupon the Prophet ﷺ got up, offered two light rakʿah and went out and led the Fajr salāh. (Bukhārī 183)

When One Wakes Up At Night

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever gets up at night and says [the above] and then says: ‘O Allah, forgive me’ or makes du‘ā’, it will be accepted. If he performs wudhū and prays, his prayer will be accepted.” (Bukhārī)

When Changing Sides at Night

ʿĀishah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhā) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah would turn and change sides at night, he would say [the above] .(Nasā’ī in Sunan al-Kubrā 10700)
